One of the main purposes of music videos is for promotion. A music video goes hand in hand with the song. If the song is popular, the music video is nearly always watched aswell. If the music video is interesting people will watch it over and over again so it will therefore go viral. Because of this, artists will use a music video to promote themselves as an artist. Take Miley Cyrus for instance. She wanted to completely get rid of her being known for playing “Hannah Montana”, as when she first brought out music as just Miley Cyrus, her fan base was young little girls. Here is an example of one of her first music videos when she began to produce music.

Miley Cyrus clearly wanted to be big in the charts and with the fan base and how she was looked upon it wasn’t going to happen. The way to do this was to change her perception of this look. She therefore changed her appearance and attitude completely.  She wanted to make a huge comeback in the music video “we can’t stop” by outrageously dancing and expressing her new look and attitude. This therefore got millions of views and promoted herself and her album.
